India Assessment Level, Nepal Assessment level and Bangladesh Assessment Level 2018 (Australia)- News

India Assessment Level, Nepal Assessment Level and Bangladesh Assessment Level will remain the same for Australian student visas. There is no risk level change according to the SSVF (Simplified Student Visa Framework) of Australia.

The DHA (Department of Home Affairs) has divided all countries and the institutions & universities in Australia in Assessment Levels 1, 2 and 3 depending on their risk assessment, where AL1 denotes the lowest risk, AL 2 denotes moderate risk and AL 3 denotes the highest risk. India’s stays in AL 2 which is a pleasant news, which will result in higher visa success rate and lower processing time for visa applications for students.

We would like to still encourage you all to take high-quality student’s applications and screen them well in order to see more success. It is highly recommended to attach required financial documents even if the DHA’s system doesn’t ask for it. There are many Australia universities that have improved their risk level and at present none of the universities are in AL 3. This is a great feeling of reassurance and relaxation following release from the stress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which countries and visa subclasses will have their assessment levels Increased?

A: There are many countries that will have their assessment levels increase across one or more subclasses. The full list of affected countries is available on the department’s website.

Q: I am an international student studying in Australia. Do these changes affect me? When do these changes take place?

A: These changes will only affect new Student visa applications made on or after 1st April 2018.

Q: What does a rising assessment level mean to Student visa applicants?

A: Students affected by the changes will be required to provide more documentary evidence to support their claims for the grant of a Student visa. These may include evidence of English language proficiency, financial capacity, and academic qualifications.

Q: Will a rising assessment level mean a tougher pathway to gain Australian permanent residence?

A: A Student visa does not confer any automatic right to migrate to Australia. It is important to note that Student visas are aimed at achieving an educational outcome. The skilled migration program is designed to meet the needs of the Australian labour market and strengthen the whole economy.

Requirements for permanent skilled migration will change from time to time and there is no particular course that guarantees a permanent visa.

Students should not make educational choices solely on the basis of hoping to achieve a particular migration outcome because the skilled migration program will continue to change and adapt to Australia’s economic needs.
